Vertical Gardens can be realised in various technical ways, depending on your wishes. All structures have a minimum lifespan of 10 years and are easy to maintain. The wall’s maintenance is similar to the regular maintenance of houseplants. All vertical surfaces, large or small, can be covered in plants. The sky is the limit.

Modular system

In terms of irrigation, smaller green surfaces can be connected to the water mains and fitted with an automatic dosing pump. In order to nurture and secure the plant, we use a substrate made of soil or a synthetic product (foam resin or glass fibre). As gravity plays a larger than normal role in this setting regarding to water, the irrigation is subject to particular requirements. Plants are watered with intervals.

This system uses user-friendly modules which demand little to no specific knowledge from the user. The system is flexible and can be expanded if necessary.

Eco-system
For larger projects, the used water is collected and reused in full. This is a closed system. The drain water is reconditioned every cycle, and the evaporated amount of water is constantly replenished, preferably with rain water. This is a slightly more technical system, which also requires a separate structural strength calculation on account of its size. It comprises a unit with an LDPE wallboard with a thickness of 1 cm. A constant water flow, as in a hydroponic system, supplies water and nutrition.

Choice of plants:

With both systems, it is vital to select the right plants in order to prevent bare spots from emerging in only a couple of months’ time just because the plants fail to grow in their new location.

There can be many reasons for this, such as:

• Too much or too little sun
• Temperatures that are too high or too low
• Too dry or too wet
• Too windy (leaf necrosis) (drying out)
• Humidity
• Draught (plant diseases)
• Acid level of the soil (pH)
• Salts
• Seasonal effects
